Stranded Bournemouth chairman to miss vital game

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has conceded that he will miss the Cherries possible promotion at Burton Albion on Saturday due to the continuing flight disruption. Mitchell and chief executive Neil Blake took their families to Dubai for Easter but were caught in the Emirate after the Icelandic volcano erupted.

The Cherries will be promoted if they win on Saturday but Mitchell told the Bournemouth Daily Echo: "We were expecting to be back in time for the Darlington game last Saturday but, unfortunately, we couldn't fly due to the situation.

"Even if they were to re-open the airspace when they hope to, the earliest flight we were able to book was for Saturday afternoon so I wouldn't be able to get to Burton in time.

"It is a great disappointment and is going to be hard keeping in touch with events by telephone."
