Strachan hails Man Utd boss Ferguson over Scholes comeback

Former Manchester United star Gordon Strachan has hailed Sir Alex Ferguson's efforts in persuading Paul Scholes to quit his retirement.

Scholes has enjoyed a dream return to the Manchester United team since his shock comeback at the turn of the year. And Strachan, who played under Fergie at Aberdeen and United, believes the move is all down to the 37-year-old's loyalty to his mentor.

"Paul has not come back for adulation or for money," Strachan told the Sunday Mirror. "And he is not coming back to be high-profile.

"He's coming back to help out the person who has helped him most in his career: Ferguson.

"He's also helping the people at the club and the people behind the scenes who we don't know about.

"He was meeting Manchester United supporters and they were saying 'We're a bit short in midfield' - and so he says 'I can help'.

"Paul was and still is a model professional, a credit to the football profession. And as he's shown so far, he's still a fantastic football player."
