Strachan backs ex-Everton forward McFadden to be reborn Scotland star

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan suggests that Motherwell's James McFadden could once again be a key player for the national team.

The 30-year old forward is rediscovering his past form with the Well after returning to fitness from a series of leg injuries and Strachan believes he could again be a crucial part of the Scottish side as they look ahead to Euro2016 after a failed 2014 World Cup qualification campaign.

"I was out of the Scotland squad for about 18 months until I was 32. I just wasn't picked. That was fine because I knew I wasn't playing that well," said Strachan.

"But I came back and ended up being captain. So you can come back.

"If Faddy gets back to full fitness, he probably has another three years left in him due to three years of inactivity."

He added: "Faddy's in that group (of attacking players) where we're very strong. "Shaun Maloney, Kris Commons, James Forrest, Robert Snodgrass, etc. They're wide players or can play behind the striker."
