Stolica buoyed by first win with New England Revolution

Serbian striker Ilija Stolica was buoyed by his first win with new club New England Revolution.

The 31-year old former Buducnost Podgorica man landed in the US less than 24 hours before his debut against DC United and was delighted to be a part of a victory straight away.

"I'm excited to be here," he told the Boston Globe. "The most important thing is the three points and we succeeded. I didn't sleep well and I have the next few days to recover for the next game (Houston Dynamo on Saturday)."

Revs coach Steve Nicol said it was now important to treat every match as a must-win following their 5-0 loss to Real Salt Lake in early July. Since then, the club has remained undefeated with five wins and two losses from seven outings.

"We just figure we had to get 3 points, regardless of where they are,'' Nicol said of DC who sit at the foot of the MLS table.

"We really need to try and make sure we win home games, and that's the most important thing, regardless of who you are playing. We felt that this was as important as playing LA who is at the top of the league."
