Stoke's Soares wants regular first team football

Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares earned his first start for the Potters in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and won two penalties. The 22 year old is now hopeful he will remain in the first team for the trip to Manchester City next Sunday.

"I think I did a pretty good job and have given the gaffer a hard time picking the team," Soares told Stoke's official website.

"This was my home debut and I'm glad I had the chance to show the fans what I can offer the team.

"I found out I was playing in the dressing room before the game.

"The manager told me on Saturday there was a possibility that I could be involved so I made sure I was prepared for it and it was great to get a chance. Hopefully I can stay in the team.

"I thought I coped pretty well. I won two penalties and created a couple of chances. The main thing is that we got the three points."

And Soares insists he has had no problems adjusting to life at Stoke since moving from Crystal Palace.

"It's been brilliant," he added. "The boys and the gaffer have helped me settle in really well. I'm glad to be here and want to show the fans what I can do."
