Stoke's Boston native Cameron delighted London Marathon going ahead

Stoke City's Boston native Geoff Cameron is delighted the London Marathon will be run today.

The Stoke player is proud today's London Marathon will go ahead as planned to show the country won't be cowed by terrorists.

Cameron said: "You can't back down to them. As nations, as individuals, we just need to open our eyes a little bit more.

"But you can't back down to them and you can't start living your life in fear because that's what these sick people want."

Cameron is famous for his charity efforts in the USA and is carrying on the trend at Stoke.

He has already appealed on Twitter for people to make donations to the Boston marathon charity fund.

The Stoke defender revealed: "I want to get some things going and raise money so we can give some of the victims of the bombing some financial assistance.

"These are incredible people and if the bombings did anything, it actually brought us all closer together.

"It was tough being so far away from home on Monday because you can't give your loved ones a reassuring hug.

"My sisters are both triathletes and I didn't know if they were running - or cheering on their friends.

"But Boston is my pride and joy and when something as tragic as this happens there it leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth.

"But Boston is a strong city and the United States is a strong nation.

"London is too and the whole world will see that when today's marathon goes ahead as planned."
