Stoke's Adam: Manager Hughes won't let us think about the beach!

Stoke City's Charlie Adam scored the winner against Southampton on Saturday and believes boss Mark Hughes is inspiring the team towards the results.

Adam fired home in the 84th minute as the Potters came from behind to defeat the Saints 2-1 at home which has seen them move up to ninth on the Premier League table.

Being well clear of the relegation zone but not close enough to the top seven, Stoke essentially has nothing to play for in the season run-in but Adam says Hughes is not letting the players fade off into their holidays.

"The manager will not let us go on the beach - that's the problem!" he joked. "He's set us a target again: four more wins from four home games. It is one down, three to go."

It was Adam's first goal since his wonder strike from the halfway line against Chelsea but he says it felt more important.

"I don't think any goal now will beat that Chelsea goal. It was a once-in-a-lifetime strike," he added.

"The important thing is we bounced back after three defeats with the draw with West Ham last week. It was good to win another home game.

"We had a gameplan and it worked. Hopefully we can get another home win against Sunderland next week. We want to go above Swansea."
