The Stoke winger was reportedly horrified by pictures from a recent magazine shoot and visited an exclusive London clinic on Tuesday to rectify the issue.
He emerged nearly three hours later wearing a baseball cap over a bandage, claiming he had 'something' removed.
A friend of Pennant told The Sun: "Jermaine doesn't want anyone to know because he knows he'll get stick. But to be fair he can't win either way. He doesn't seem to realise people are bound to notice.
"It wouldn't have taken his team-mates long to spot it when he returned for pre-season training."
