Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington isn't expecting an England call up anytime soon.
Etherington is in the form of his life and on Sunday will try to help Stoke beat Bolton and clinch a place in the FA Cup final. But he doubts he'll be returning to Wembley to play for Fabio Capello's national team.
He said: "Obviously it hurts. I'm not going to lie.
"I desperately want to play for my country at the top level. But with all that's gone on in my life, I try not to dwell on what's not happened."
Etherington, who blew an estimated £1.5m on gambling, added: "I've done some silly things in the past but I'm proud of the way I'm playing and proud of the way I have kept off the gambling."
