Stoke City winger Oussama Assaidi paid tribute to manager Mark Hughes after scoring in their 1-1 draw with Everton.

The on-loan Liverpool midfielder is grateful to Hughes for kickstarting his career.

"The manager here has given me a lot of confidence," said the 26-year-old winger.

"He told me to get hold of the ball and take the defenders on, be direct and run in at goal. That's the way I like to play football and I'm enjoying myself.

"I almost scored in the first half too. If my shot wasn't blocked I think it would've gone in.

"As soon as I got the ball (for the goal) I fancied my chances. It's a shame it didn't win us the game, though.

"I think I played well against Everton. It was a hard game and we worked very hard. In the end we were unlucky not to pick up the three points."
