Stoke City are willing to make Inter Milan midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri the highest paid player in their history.
The Mirror says Potters boss Mark Hughes outbid Everton for the 23-year-old Swiss international.
Stoke are offering to make him their best-paid player, on £60,000-a-week, to persuade him to join.
But Shaqiri has so far rejected it even though he is surplus to requirements at the San Siro side, who recently splashed out over £20m on fellow midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia of Monaco.
