Stoke will only deal in Pennant if the price is right

Stoke boss Tony Pulis insists the club will only move to sign Jermaine Pennant on a permanent deal if he falls within the club's wage structure. The Potters boss says he has been impressed by former Arsenal and Liverpool winger Pennant since he arrived at the Britannia Stadium on loan from Primera Liga club Real Zaragoza on deadline day.

Whilst admitting he would like to snap the 27-year-old up permanently, Pulis is adamant the Potters will not pay over the odds for his services at the risk of incurring debt at the club.

"The lad's enjoyed it and he's worked extremely hard, he's got his head down," Pulis told Sky Sports News.

"But we have to, and we will, keep to a structure at this football club.

"When you look at what's happening around and about you and the level of debt that certain clubs are in, and that's just not the big clubs.

"The other day Bolton's figures came out and it's quite extraordinary that clubs can be in that much financial debt.

"It's a tribute to (chairman) Peter (Coates) and his family about the way he's running this football club, when you think that we actually announced a profit last year.

"We have to maintain that and do the best we possibly can in the respect of keeping the financial constraints as close to being in the black as we can."
