Stoke wait for Whelan to accept terms

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes wants to keep hold of midfielder Glenn Whelan.

The Republic of Ireland international has received a new contract offer from the Potters.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes confirmed the news at yesterday's media conference. Whelan's current deal expires in June.

The midfielder is now in his sixth year with Stoke, having arrived in 2008 from Sheffield Wednesday.

Hughes has previously confirmed: "There is something on the table for Glenn and was early on in the season, there have been more discussions about that."
