Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has given up on an England recall.

Fabio Capello needs a temporary replacement for Manchester United star Wayne Rooney but Crouch has not figured for his country in almost a year and does not expect to add to his 42 caps.

The Stoke City striker, who has scored 22 time for England, said: "I wouldn't say Wayne's absence means I'll get back in. I don't carry much hope.

"I go into each game with Stoke to play as well as I can and if the England call comes, that'd be fantastic.

"I've felt like I've always done well for England and I feel like I've been doing well for Stoke, so of course it's disappointing when I'm not selected.

"I'll get on with playing for Stoke. If the call comes then great, but if not, I'm happy where I am."
