Stoke striker Carew takes aim at Aston Villa boss Houllier

Stoke City striker John Carew has hit out at Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier.

Carew admits he still talks to his old mates at Villa Park every couple of days, and will know they are all wishing him well at Wembley for the FA Cup final.

He said: "The reason why things were difficult at Aston Villa had nothing to do with the sport side.

"I had been the clear first choice for three or four years, top scorer every season, and things had been going great.

"It was personal, and then there's no reason to... well you just go somewhere else. There is no reason to waste time.

"I still talk to the boys every two days - it was the right choice for me to go and play football somewhere else for at least a few months. We will see what happens.

"They are still singing songs about how much they love me over there. It is probably the place where I am most wanted on the planet!

"It was just one guy who probably had some problems with me. The one guy I had problems with is the man in charge there, so I thought it was best to go somewhere else."
