Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross still harbours hopes of an England return.
Shawcross has kicked off the season in impressive form.
He told The Sentinel: "At my age of 25 I need to improve and this year, hopefully, I can improve over the season and in the second half of the season you will see the whole team will have confidence.
"Hopefully I can improve to get back into the (England) squad. It is difficult if you are not a top-four club, but the players we have brought in can only help me."
