Stoke's Sorensen prefers spotlight off him after shootout heroics

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen preferred to share the limelight with his teammates after helping them through to the fourth round of the Carling Cup last night.

The Danish gloveman produced a stunning save to keep out Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko in the second half before making the winning save from Massimo Luongo's spot-kick in the penalty shootout which the Potters won 7-6 after it ended scoreless at the end of extra time.

But Sorensen did not want the recognition directed at him as his teammates were just as big a part of it as he was.

"It's nice to get the plaudits for the save, but it was the other lads who stepped up and put the ball into the back of the net," Sorensen told the club's official website.

"They had the real pressure, because as outfield players you are expected to score.

"For me to make that save was nice and I'm just delighted that we won the game.

"We played nearly two-and-a-half hours of football and we never really looked in danger of losing the game at any point in my opinion.

"We had chances in the first half and in the second half. Jon (Walters) was unlucky in extra-time when it just rolled the wrong side of the post, but we got there in the end.

"We had to persevere, but we are in that draw and that's all that matters now."
