Stoke's Adam backing Scotland to recoil against USA

Charlie Adam is confident that Scotland are a much better side now than they were 18 months ago.

The Stoke City midfielder and his Scots teammates are preparing to face the USA in a friendly at Hampden Park on Friday and he feels that the side has improved out of sight under Gordon Strachan.

A year-and-a-half ago, Scotland lost 5-1 to the US in Florida but Adam suggests this Friday will be a different story.

"It's a difficult place to go and play and we got beat," Adam said. "We took it on the chin. We looked at the performance and it wasn't good enough and we moved on.

"Our performances have picked up since then. They will be coming to Hampden and it will be a difficult game for them."

He added: "It's going to be a good test. The USA have qualified for the World Cup in Brazil and they have a good squad.

"Hopefully we will give a good account of ourselves and try to win the game."
