Stoke City No2 Peter Reid is surprised by Everton fullback Leighton Baines' England World Cup axing.

The Everton legend believes the left-back was unlucky not to make the final 23 man squad for South Africa but says he shouldn't get disheartened.

"He is good defensively but there must have been something that went wrong with Baines because I think he is a good footballer," Reid told evertonfc.com.

"He has a really good left foot and he has had a decent season for Everton."
