Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has revealed the support he received from World Cup winner Gordon Banks during his injury problems.

Butland has missed much of this season with an ankle problem.

Butland said: “He called me up and explained times when he had injured his ankle and he was jumping over bags of sand.

“There is probably a lot more health and safety involved these days!

“But that sums up how brilliant they were, it was about hard work and putting in the hours.

“It's an honour to speak to guys like that and hopefully I can be thought of, down the line, with similar thoughts."
