Former Stoke City fullback Mike Pejic has backed Luke Shaw's move to Manchester United.
The former Southampton defender becomes English football's most expensive teenage signing - to the tune of £27 million.
Pejic wrote in The Sentinel: "It seems like a lot of money but I'm not surprised Manchester United think Luke Shaw is worth it.
"I have really liked the look of this left-back as he has emerged in the first team at Southampton and his England call-up was well deserved.
"He has good pace, he's strong and he's a neat passer.
"His forward play is his strength obviously and he's quality in possession. He'll be a good asset over the next few years.
"People will gag at the price tag - and £30-plus million is crazy if you're living in the real world - but we've seen Gareth Bale go for £100m. It's big business.
"A lot of pundits seem to think that full-backs have become more important in recent years but don't be fooled by that.
"Even in the 1970s when I was at Stoke that Tony Waddington put a lot of weight on me and Jackie Marsh piling forward from defence."
