Stoke goalkeeper Butland admits being close to Banks

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland admits Gordon Banks is an inspiration.

Butland revealed he often speaks with the World Cup winner.

"Gordon is a massive motivation," Butland says. "I do speak to him a couple of times a month. He rarely lets me get a word in edgeways to be honest. He wants to know how I am and he offers his opinion on goalkeeping.

"When I was injured he played a big part. We have good conversations. He is old-fashioned so everything is just, "Keep going." 'He speaks about the way he used to train with sandbags on his shoulders and we're there in a fancy gym with posh weights. He would be getting the young kids to kick balls at him in the afternoons. It just shows how far the game has come and how great he was with limited resources.

"I want a piece of what he's had and the legacy that he's lived of being a World Cup winner. I dream and I hope that I can achieve what he achieved in 66. I haven't seen his medal. I'll have to get myself one and we can show each other!"
