Stoke City fullback Glen Johnson says Sam Allardyce deserves his chance as England coach.

Johnson, who has won 54 caps for England, has been taking a keen interest in the search for a successor to Roy Hodgson.

"Good luck to him," he told The Sentinel.

"He deserves his chance. I'm sure he'll get the squad firing and pick the players he wants to pick. We'll know whether it's the right decision in a couple of years' time!

"Good managers like that can adapt. I'm sure the way Sam used to play, he chose that style because of the players that he had.

"Maybe he would change the style if he had, no disrespect to them, footballing players or world-class players. He might want to do something different."
