A Stoke City fan suffered cardiac arrest during the final moments of the Potters' clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
The supporter had collapsed inside the Britannia Stadium and after having been revived with a defibrillator, he was rushed to the hospital.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We had a call just before 5.50pm to a male cardiac arrest. A community defibrillator was used at the stadium. Two ambulances were sent out and he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. It was a successful resuscitation."
Stoke City star Charlie Adam tweeted his message of support to the fan.
Sad to hear a Stoke fan took ill today at the game. All the players send their best wishes, get well soon
