Stoke extension on the cards for Sorensen

Thomas Sorensen is pondering a contract extension with Stoke City.

The 37-year old Danish goalkeeper has taken a back seat at the Britannia Stadium over the past two seasons with Asmir Begovic taking the number one role.

Sorensen, who has been with the Potters since 2008, is considering a one-year deal with the Staffordshire club and suggests he could stay regardless of the movements of Begovic who is attracting interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

"We had positive meetings with the club last week," Sorensen told The Sentinel. "They want to keep me here and we are having a look at it.

"Hopefully we can do something and I can stay for another year, but nothing is on paper. I don't think Begovic's future will influence my decision. It will not be on the basis of him being here or not."

However, the former Sunderland and Aston Villa gloveman may also consider a move abroad if the opportunity arose.

"I would [listen to other offers], of course, but at the moment nothing has come in that fits the bill," he added.

"I would not be interested in moving down the league, so that limits your options, but an experience abroad could be an option."
