Stoke City defender Dominic Matteo admits his back injury has been frustrating for him.

He told The Sentinel: "I did pre-season and came back as fit as a fiddle, but then got the back injury and haven't been able to shake it off.

"I have been having injections in my back but, if they don't work, I might need an operation because I want to get fit.

"But I go in most mornings, so I know the atmosphere around the place is good.

"The club is in a good position, but I am sure the manager will strengthen and bring in another couple of players in January."
