Stoke convinced they have won race for Middlesbrough defender Wheater

Stoke City are convinced Middlesbrough defender David Wheater is on his way to the Brit.

The Mirror says Stoke believe they have won the race to sign Wheater for £1.5million.

The stopper, 23, once an England prospect, is out of contract this summer and cash-strapped Boro want to sell him.

Wheater is now keen to join the Potters as he wants to play alongside ex-Boro pal Robert Huth.
