Stoke City News: Fans confront Hughes and players at station; Butland demands fight-back

Stoke City fans confronted the players and manager Mark Hughes after their thrashing at Tottenham.

The Sentinel reports dozens of angry Stoke fans confronted their manager and players at Stoke station this evening.

At one point they besieged the team coach and hurled furious abuse as Hughes and his players were desperate to leave the area.

One witness said he didn't see any violence, but admitted it was a scary atmosphere involving as many as 200 fans.

The supporters had been travelling on the same train from Euston to Stoke this evening following their side's humiliating 5-1 defeat against Tottenham at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Jack Butland has challenged his Stoke teammates to fight back after the 5-1 thrashing.

He said: “Now you find out what kind of characters we've got. We need to show fight not just (in our next game at Burnley) on Tuesday but for the rest of the season. If we continue to show performances like that against anyone we are going to struggle.

“It's all well and good having talent and ability in the squad but we've got to make sure are working hard and competing at the levels we need to compete. Today we weren't."
