Stoke City manager Hughes: Potters won't be spending big this summer

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has warned supporters that the club will not be spending huge amounts of money on transfers this summer.

The Potters have broken their transfer record twice in the last two seasons after spending £12m on Xheridan Shaqiri in 2015 and £18m on Giannelli Imbula last summer.

However, despite reassuring fans that there will be investment in the squad in the upcoming transfer window, Hughes was quick to dismiss that there will be any exorbitant purchases.

"The owners have put a huge investment into the club and that's why we are an established Premier League club," said Hughes.

"But it's fair to say huge amounts of money won't be spent in the future. We are trying to cut our cloth. We are not going into the market for £30m players. That's not going to happen any time soon.

"We will try to compete in a difficult market because there's a lot of clubs with similar resources to ourselves after the same players and that's the challenge."
