Stoke City chief Tony Scholes has welcomed their deal for PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters.

The Holland international arrives as manager Mark Hughes' first signing at the Brit.

Scholes said: "Erik has a considerable amount of experience of playing at the highest level, both with Holland and in the Champions League with PSV Eindhoven.

"We are delighted to have brought him here."
