Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is a £2 million target for Stoke City.
The News of the World says the Potters want to recruit a new keeper to replace Steve Simonsen as back-up to Thomas Sorensen.
Simonsen is out of contract in the summer and Pulis needs an up-and-coming keeper to take over his role and challenge Sorensen. Stoke assistant boss Peter Reid made a personal check on Lonergan in Preston's 0-0 draw with Derby on Tuesday.
Pulis is also keen on Huddersfield's Alex Smithies but fears the Terriers will not sell.
