Stoke chairman Coates wants Pulis to sell before buying

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says manager Tony Pulis must sell to buy this summer.

Since winning promotion four years ago, City have spent close to £84m on transfer fees, while bringing in around £15m in sales.

Coates told The Sentinel: "I think we will have to have some dealings. We can't keep pouring money in.

"We have invested over the last five or six years and we are in the top few clubs in terms of net investment. We made a big investment and now we expect trading to take place - i.e. some will come in and some will go out, and we have to generate enough for those coming in.

"We need a balanced approach and will have to deal in the market, but that is only the same as every other club."
