Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has launched a blistering attack on greedy Premier League stars.
The Potters have been priced out of moves for Birmingham duo Cameron Jerome and Scott Dann after refusing to meet their "excessive" wage demands.
Carlton Cole's £4.5m move has also stalled after the West Ham striker demanded a £40,000-a-week deal.
Coates said: "Players are demanding excessive wages and some of them need to wake up.
"Hopefully, the financial fair play rules can help fix the problem - otherwise clubs are going to find themselves in a mess."
