Stoke City chairman Peter Coates feels the media are targeting Charlie Adam.
Coates has sprung to the defence of midfielder Adam by declaring there is no case to answer following his two challenges at Chelsea.
"You can become a bogey man and easy prey for the media," he told The Sentinel, "and Charlie seems to be in their sights.
"I have seen the incidents and I was at the game as well, there should be nothing more to it. They were two incidents like many you see in any match at this level.
"I can think of players from the past, who I won't name, who rightly or wrongly became targets.
"Charlie seems to be falling into that category, which is unfortunate. He wants to win, but he is fair."
