Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says they'll maintain the right balance between the club's first team success and academy development.
City have announced a £6m investment to improve training facilities for the club's youth structure.
Coates told The Sentinel: "The academy is long term and is important to our future, but don't get this investment out of proportion.
"What we spend on the academy in relation to our first team is tiny. Our priority is the first team.
"The facilities we have are excellent, but they are there for the first team and the academy."
