Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross could pledge his international future to Wales.
The Sentinel says former Wales boss Bryan Flynn asked Shawcross to switch allegiance when he was caretaker manager late last year.
But Shawcross refused to give a decision and Stoke boss Tony Pulis, who has long been touting his skipper's England credentials, says: "Ryan believes it's too early in his career to make that sort of judgement.
"I'll back him whatever he wants to do because he's been fantastic for us."
Shawcross has already played for England under-21s in two friendlies - and sat on the bench when called up by Fabio Capello for the first time for last March's friendly against Egypt at Wembley.
