Stoke boss Pulis targets 40 points

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis believes 40 points will keep his side up in the top flight this season.

The Potters are currently placed ninth on the table with 33 points in the bank and although his side has the scope to push higher, Pulis will first ensure that the club remains in the Premiership by getting the seven additional points he feels will keep them safe.

"I think there'll be a lot of clubs looking over their shoulders at what's happening at the bottom end of this league," Pulis said.

"It's going to be 40 or even more points to stay up this year. So we have to get those points as quickly as we can because there'll be a hell of a lot of other teams who'll be trying to get those points as well."

Stoke travel to Birmingham this weekend in a vital fixture and Pulis feels that Alex McLeish's new loan signing, Obafemi Martins, could be the danger.

"It's a good signing. He's been a good player," added Pulis. "He's played in the Premier League. He knows what it's all about. He's lively, he's very quick."
