Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is standing by Jermaine Pennant.
Pennant was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman in a nightclub.
Pennant, 29, has been bailed pending further enquiries into the incident in Manchester on Sunday.
Pulis said: "We have taken the approach as a club that we will look after him.
"He has his court case on May 9. I've not spoken to anyone on the police force about it, so I can't comment.
"I'm certainly not going to hang the kiddie before we know what all this is about.
"When we have seen what he is charged with, we will deal with it in-house. We want to keep him. He has another year left on his contract."
