Stoke boss Pulis ready to hand Woodgate debut at Hajduk Split

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis could hand Jonathan Woodgate a first start at Hajduk Split tonight.

Former Tottenham defender Woodgate, 31, whose career has been blighted by a succession of long-term injuries, is in line to make his competitive debut for Stoke tonight.

Pulis said: "The biggest thing is to make sure he feels good himself. He's not 19 years of age and desperate to prove a point.

"I will speak to him and if it's right, I will play him.

"Jonathan has got experience playing against foreign players and in big stadiums.

"If he does not play here he might play against Chelsea in our first league game, as long as he is right.

"We have brought him here to get him into the team as soon as possible, not to sit on the bench."
