Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is ready to recall Charlie Adam for the match with Manchester City.
The Scot has not played since the death of his father - Charlie Snr - a fortnight ago.
Former Liverpool midfielder Adam, 27, was granted compassionate leave by the club as he returned to Scotland to be with his family.
Pulis said: "It's very difficult to gauge how individuals react to losing a parent.
"But the good thing about this place is that the players are so close to each other. Him being around here, even sitting on the bench for a couple of games, takes his mind off it.
"But we'll be looking to freshen the team up."
