Stoke boss Pulis happy for Matteo to train with squad

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis says released defender Dominic Matteo can do preseason with the club as he seeks new employment.

"Football moves on and I'm afraid that means players have to do the same at this time of year," said Pulis.

"I have the utmost respect for Dominic because he came back to us last summer and never got paid, but proved he was fit and capable after a lot of work.

"Unfortunately, he got that foot injury last November and never played in the first-team again, but that didn't mean he stopped contributing to the cause. He loves being around the club, he was brilliant with his attitude.

"Towards the end of the season in particular, when it got a bit fraught, Dom was one of the shining lights in the dressing room. People don't see that side of things, but I can tell you it was really appreciated."
