Stoke boss Pulis: Crouch was desperate to play

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis admits he had to hold back Peter Crouch for yesterday's win at West Bromwich Albion.

Crouch is to have a brace inserted in his mouth after having two teeth knocked out during the win over Newcastle which meant he was replaced by Kenwyne Jones.

Pulis said: "Peter has seen the specialist in London and he has told him he needs to go back down there early next week and have some work done on it.

"Hopefully he will have a brace in place that will protect him.

"I think they are more concerned about him getting another knock in his mouth and causing more damage."

Pulis added: "The kid wanted to play. He wanted to be involved and he was here today.

"He typifies what the football club is all about. He has grown into what we are and was keen to play. The specialist and club doctor wouldn't allow it."
