Stoke City boss Tony Pulis admits he fancied former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov before he joined Fulham.

Instead, Pulis snapped up Charlie Adam from Liverpool.

Pulis said: "We believe he has the ability to do what Berbatov has. Charlie can see a pass and open the door.

"He scored 15 goals at Blackpool and we want him to get 10-15 goals for us.

"But Berbatov's an outstanding player, he's at the top of his game right now, glues everything together and makes it all tick."
