Stoke City boss Paul Lambert had no complaints over Charlie Adam's dismissal in defeat to Everton at home.

Adam walked after just half-an-hour of today's costly 2-1 defeat after sliding in on Wayne Rooney with his studs and leaving referee Martin Atkinson waving red.

"I couldn't really see it (at the time) with the weather," said Lambert. "I saw it on the monitor and I can understand why Martin's give the red card.

"If you go in with the studs in the modern-day game you put yourself in a position to be red-carded.

"The ball and the grip becomes more slippy, but I can understand why he's given the red card."

Lambert, who made Adam one of five changes today, continued: "We started well and looked really good. It (the sending off) was a massive blow. Charlie's as disappointed as anybody, but we cannot change it."
