Stoke boss Hughes: Our players will surprise fans

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has told fans to expect a surprise from his players this season.

Hughes insists the players he inherited are capable of playing a new passing game because they were wrongly labelled in days gone by.

"I think everyone knows what the perception was... one-dimensional and can only play certain ways. That was the top and bottom of their capabilities," he told The Sentinel.

"It is patently obvious, having worked with them for six weeks now, we are capable of being much more than that. I've been pleasantly surprised by what I've seen.

"Maybe I was guilty of having a perception on the quality of player I had at the club. But I have very good and accomplished Premier League players. That gives me the comfort and I know I can work with them."
