Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has explained playing Bruno Martins Indi at left-back.
The Dutchman has struggled to settle since his summer arrival from Porto.
Hughes said, "I needed to know if Bruno was a viable option at left-back, I think he is, but obviously Erik is a player that we've got great faith in as well.
"I think we're starting to get more settled in terms of where we need to be. We've got players coming back – Glen Johnson coming back is a big help to us as well, his influence will start to become greater in the coming weeks.
"Continuity in selection will obviously help us, we haven't really had that at the back and that includes the goalkeeping situation as well."
