Stoke City boss Mark Hughes hopes to sign permanently Derby County goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Grant, 33, has been outstanding for the Potters on-loan.
"We'd love to do something with him and make it a permanent situation for him because I think it's what he wants as well," said Hughes after revealing that talks had opened between the two clubs.
"But it's a little bit difficult at the moment, it's a bit of a double-edged sword, because the better he does the more people think they can take advantage of that. So we are in a little bit of a discussion period at the moment.
"He's got to a level that clearly he's comfortable at and we are delighted we've been able to give him that opportunity - and more than delighted he's taken that opportunity because we needed him to have an impact."
