Stoke boss Hughes denies Brighton deserved penalty call

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has congratulated the referees for not being swayed by the Brighton crowd after Glenn Murray was fouled in the box during their 2-2 draw with the Seagulls on Monday.

Murray was clipped by Ryan Shawcross inside the box, but Hughes has argued that the 31-year-old initiated contact with his defender.

Hughes said: "I had a look at it. My initial reaction was I felt the lad splayed his legs to get some contact and it was minimal contact on Ryan's heel.

"He (Murray) wasn't going to get on the end of it and hoped to get an advantage. I thought the referee did well not to be swayed by the crowd."
