Stoke boss Hughes admits Allen workload concerns

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is concerned over Joe Allen's workload.

Hughes admits they need to manage Allen's fitness through the season.

Hughes said, "He hasn't trained as yet. He was with the physios yesterday and we are hopeful we will take part today.

"It's similar to the lead up to the West Brom game where he didn't have a great deal of training because we had to manage him and he got through the game ok.

"The same with the Man United game. So we've been managing his workload.

"He gets discomfort and it tightens up and inhibits him.

"It's probably due to the workload he puts in. He's had a busy summer (with Wales at the Euros) and is playing week-in, week-out and he hasn't done that for a number of seasons.

"His workload has increased markedly this year in comparison to recent years, so we have to be a little bit careful."
