Stoke boss full of praise for Woodgate

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis heaped praise on Jonathan Woodgate following his debut for the club last night.

The former Tottenham man played a full 90 minutes alongside Ryan Shawcross in central defence in the Potters' 1-0 Europa League win over Croatian outfit Hajduk Split and the showing was lauded by Pulis.

"I thought he and Ryan, the two centre-halves, were absolutely fantastic," Pulis said. "I don't think they put a foot wrong. The game was picked (for Woodgate) because we knew we would need experience.

"We are hoping he will get better and better. I think if he plays the games, we will see that we have taken a real, real player."

And Woodgate said it was great to be able to get his first full 90 in about a year-and-a-half.

"That's my first 90 minutes for 18 months, so let's see how I feel," Woodgate told the club's official website.

"But I enjoyed the game and felt good. It's a tough place to come, but all the lads did fantastically well in those circumstances."
